Tenor Matthew Corcoran is quickly gaining recognition as a compelling Jugendlicher Heldentenor, praised for his powerful and gleaming clarion sound which allows Matt to sing a wide range of repertoire. Though, he specializes in major works in English, the young heroes of Strauss and Wagner and the more dramatic works of Mozart’s canon.
Recent performances include Don José in Carmen, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Jimmy in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer, Danilo in Die lustige Witwe and Sam in Susannah. Matt has appeared with The Dallas Symphony, The Dallas Opera, The Dallas Winds, Boston Lyric Opera, Tulsa Opera, and Painted Sky Opera.
Matt is also an avid recitalist having been both a fellow for the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Festival and Cincinnati Song Initiative where he specializes in the works of contemporary American composers like Steven Mark Kohn and Tom Cipullo while highlighting rarely performed pieces like Griffes’ Three Poems of Fiona MacCleod, Poulenc’s Tel Jour, Telle Nuit, and Britten’s Holy Sonnets of John Donne.
Matt made his film debut in Director Sam Davis’s short filmThe Singers which took home the Oscar at the 98th Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film. Matt sings a bit of Vesti La Giubba from Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci to close the film. The Singers has been featured at the SXSW Film Festival, Tribeca, Palm Beach, and won best in show at the Indy Short Film festival.
Matt has also been actively acting both on screen and as a voice over artist, having voiced characters in various anime dubs for Crunchyroll, Sound Cadence and Okratron Studios.
